Well thanks, Nancy !

Angela, I appreciate your advice about Body Glide. I will get it from the <a href="http://www.3riversrunning.com/" rel="nofollow">Three Rivers Running Company</a> as you suggested. They *are* nice there; last week I bought my very first pair of cold-weather tights and the nice guy answered my plethora of questions. Now, any advice from you ladies on where there are clear areas to run outside? I don't think neighborhood sidewalks are safe right now, but maybe the parks...

Oh, Body Glide is sooooo worth the money (and any teasing that you might endure from non-running friends).

After my first marathon, I literally had blood running into my shoes where my sock had slid down and left my foot exposed, I was covered in salt from sweating for 26 miles, but I had almost NO chafing.

Incidentally, they always have it at the running store off of Clinton. And they're super nice there... so even if you're like me, and don't feel like much of a runner, they don't make you feel self conscious or out of place.

13.1 miles deserves Body Glide. Just do it, Melissa. :)

Great post on osteoporosis. I have it too and have been taken Actonel. I think the best thing to do is to share information so we can beat this disease. If you're interested here's a couple of other posts on osteoporosis that might help http://www.newrinkles.com/index.php/archive/phosphorus-foods/ and http://www.newrinkles.com/index.php/archive/lycopene-and-osteoporosis/ and http://www.newrinkles.com/index.php/archive/ways-to-avoid-osteoporosis-what-to-do-and-what-not-to-do/

Melissa-Congratulations on your success with your weight loss and osteo results! It's all in the choices we make. I have reversed my osteo by taking my supplements and just being more active. Of course, the green leafy salads and soy protein shakes each day have really made a difference, too. I got off of Fosomax, too, and had my gyno tell me that I would be out of bones in 6 months--that was 2 years ago! I had read a lot about the side effects and I just didn't want to put anything synthetic in my body. I am stronger and have more bones than ever now!! I hope others take the same steps--with persistence, and God's help--we can live long and healthy lives. Jeanie

I am sorry Dr. Lockstone, but I would NEVER let a chiropracter touch me and my precious bones. It doesn't seem like a good idea to me for someone to be pressing with extreme force on tissue that is fragile. However, I do agree that lifestyle, diet, supplementation and resistance exercise is the best treatment and prevention. If Americans ate more natural food and less crap, they wouldn't end up with these problems.

As a <a href="http://www.findachiro.com.au/" rel="nofollow">Chiropractor</a> I am extremely concerned about the aggressive marketing of many new osteoporosis drugs.

Although the drug manufacturers would like you to believe that osteoporosis medications are appropriate for all stages of osteoporosis, should be used for prevention, and are without dangerous side effects - none of those claims are true.

In fact, the use of bisphosphonates has been linked to osteonecrosis of the jaw, unusual fractures of the thigh bone and atrial fibrillation (a chronic irregular heartbeat).

And, disturbingly, the drug companies not only downplay the risks of these medications, but they also exaggerate the benefits. A recent study in the British Medical Journal found that the risk of fracture among women with osteopenia (weakened bones but not full-blown osteoporosis) is so low that these drugs would provide almost no benefit - but would provide dangerous side effects.

A <a href="http://www.chiropractor.org.au/" rel="nofollow">Chiro</a> encourage patients to focus on all-natural strategies for preventing osteoporosis, including calcium supplementation and exercise.

Dr Steven Lockstone is <a href="http://www.amelbournechiropractor.com.au/" rel="nofollow">Chiropractor in Melbourne</a> with a passion for health and Chiropractic.
